To everyone ... By: inter10per. on 01 Nov 11, 21:18:21 To everyone commenting that you don't want to tie this around your abdomen... it depends on the situation. Most people, when they need a rope, aren't about to be hoisted vertically up? a cliff or into a helicopter (which would already be using special equipment anyway). Rather, they're on a steep incline and can't get up without assistance. The bowline around the torso is to let rescuers assist them up the incline, rather than haul them up.

Once you 'get' it this is a foolproof way to tie bowline but I suspect that a lot of people will be struggling to see how you are doing this.

When I use it however I like to finish the knot with the tail emerging on the inside of the loop so that a single half hitch can be tied to the adjacent strand as a safety knot. Also, if anybody can tie the second knot (taught line) by this illustration, without 'ANY' prior? knowledge of knots (like me), then you're seeing something that I don't!

By: lw2112. on 23 Sep 09, 04:50:11 the? way shown here is kind of backwards but will work as long as you turn the loop the rightway , but if your using larger diameter rope especially if their stiff you will be fighting the natural way the rope wants to loop because of the way the individual strands are spun in to a rope. if done correctly it can be tied in 2-3 seconds. . nice taut line but i wouldn`t put much of a load on it.

Sorry for insisting ... By: ysmad08. on 18 Apr 09, 14:00:15 Sorry for insisting, but the first bowline shown? does _not_ work as described:
The video says "make sure the rope leading to the ground is underneath" and then "go over the loop, under the loop, and then over the longer portion you are holding in your other hand". This will not work.
As written by rj5150, the loop needs to _match_ if you continue "over" or "under" - and in the video's text it does not match.
It's not " ... By: TechChick83. on 10 Apr 09, 15:06:02 It's not "miraculous." This knot will work if you start "over, under, over" or "under, over, under." ? Even though the knot looks opposite from original version, as it should since we started "under" versus "over," it's correct. Unfortunately when we were shooting, we weren't consistent and managed to show both ways of tying the knot. Apologies for any confusion...as stated earlier.
I wonder how this ... By: ysmad08. on 10 Apr 09, 14:55:38 I wonder how this video got such a good rating and comment. As mentioned before, she says "over, under, over", which is wrong.
Miraculously it works anyways, because if you look closely, the loop shown in 1:22 is exactly the opposite to the loop later? used in 1:53 ...

See how to tie the Bowline using the "Climbers" technique. In addition, see the Yosemite Back-up, which was created to keep the bite from collapsing under load conditions. The tail of the back-up can be tied to the main line with an overhand or double overhand. It is not necessary, but if it makes you feel better go for it.

It is not the configuration of loops that cause slipage but how you tighten it in the end.. If you don't hold the loop up that goes? under up and pull on the right to tighten the slack some knot in this mess is prevented from getting tight and you end up with the slip version.
Was able to turn a slip version into non-slip simply by loosening up some knots and re-tightening in the right order.

By: MIRCWOOD. on 03 Sep 11, 01:30:38 Off course if you give someone a longbow and they are only used to compound bows they wont shoot very good the first times, because its so different and they need to learn how? to shoot it, even if they are good with a compound..But that goes for everything really, so whats wrong with that again? Flint broadheads was? once "new" technology remember. I like everything about archery so I enjoy shooting longbows and compound bows as much as I like making longbows and other wooden bows so why wouldnt I like shooting different styles/versions of the thing Im interrested in..Besides learning about and shooting different styles of bows has helped me out alot of times
@ ... By: dougk5. on 07 Mar 11, 17:29:20 @MathewsSolocamHunter I agree that argueing about equipment choice is silly. I think the most important thing is that people are involved in archery and enjoying it. I attended my first 3d indoor on the weekend and shot my Monster 6. I shot real well-and also used the HHA single pin sight. That was new for me as I never shot with a slider before. I am looking forward to shooting 3ds with my OMEN. I get 332 fps as set up. My? But the Z7 would be a great bow, by far its my favorite bow ever! I have shot Hoyt, PSE, Bear, and Mathews, but the Z7 has to be the smoothest and quietest of them all but the Hoyt Carbon Matrix is up there with it! Do whatever you want just remember bows are like vehicles once you buy one thee will be a newer one out in a couple? months

@dougk5 Its a slit ... By: MathewsSolocamHunter. on 11 Feb 11, 23:09:40 @dougk5 Its a slit limb design because with the type of cam it has it needs a larger pocket so the cam wouldn't hit the limbs. In the next sentence, I would recommend adding the word "on" after the word "commenting". The sentence that begins after the word "choice" is an excellent sentence. The last sentence requires a comma between traffic and little.?
In your first ... By: rroyl. on 14 Dec 07, 05:37:37 In your first sentence, the word "nobody's" requires an apostrophe, since it stands for "nobody is". In your sentence, "it's a fucking knot.", the first word requires an apostrophe, since it means "it is". The word "its"? is a possessive pronoun, and is not appropriate in this sentence. You use the word "your" incorrectly. It should have been "You're a dick.". The first word represents "you are". It is not proper to use the possessive pronoun "Your" to represent "You're".

This is not an official bowline. (see The Ashley Book of Knots (knot #2066)). After the "bunny" comes out of the hole it goes down the right side of the tree and comes up on the left. However, there is no evidence that this version is inferior in any way (see The Art of Knotting and Splicing, Cyrus Day,? Third Edition, knot #58G). It is, as previously noted, a left-handed bowline.
By: guitarcrazed188. on 26 Jul 09, 00:07:04

By: merlindog11. on 04 Jul 09, 14:14:32
well the way you tie the knot makes it nearly impossible to? slip up, I've heard that you can use it for emergency climbing equipment (I.E. if your harness breaks)
By: ocb2112. on 13 Jun 09, 13:09:16
this knot is still a bowline and will do what its supposed to do, but its the left handed version of the bowline. the difference is, in? which direction "the bunny" goes "around the tree". in the normal version of the bowline, the rope will go the other way around.
